Meditation for New Beginnings – Release Old Habits & Embrace Change

The summer solstice is here tomorrow and this, much like the beginning of the new year, is a landmark time of new beginnings.

The longest day of the year symbolizes freshness and vitality – we feel fully awake and alive while bathed in the maximum amount of light and nourishing energy from the sun.

This is a great time to think about new projects, new routines and new habits we would like to take on – the energy around this time will be cheering us on!

BUT…..what happens when that energy fades? (Much like it does in February and all those new gym memberships go used. )

Why do we so easily and quickly fall back into our old familiar ways?

Well, when we try to change what we’re doing without changing who we’re Being, the change can only last so long.

When we try to change our habits through force – by trying to banish our old ways (I will no longer stay up late eating ice cream and watching netflix!) and use restraint to suppress those impulses (No, I will not eat that scrumptious looking double chocolate fudge brownie!) and we try to control our “good” behaviour (I am only going to eat X calories a day. I am going to work out 4 times a week. I am going to get up everyday at 5am!) we become, well….exhausted!

Force – by the very nature that it must be continually applied, becomes inevitably depleting, draining and downright boring!

We need another approach to changing our ways that is regenerative, compassionate and gets us excited about the new possibilities for ourselves, instead of dreading this restrictive and controlling way of living. (Who wants that?!)

There is a softer way.

It may seem counterintuitive, but I like to say – with softness comes strength. Strength that is solid, supportive, resilient and long-lasting, instead of the false strength that comes from force.

This is what we tap into here in my Meditation for New Beginnings: Release Old Habits. Embrace Change.

If you’ve got some old, un-serving patterns that you’re ready to let go of so that you can finally adopt healthier habits that actually stick, then come along with me on this week’s meditation journey. I’m so excited to practice with you!

As always, meet me in the comments to let me know how the experience was for you and share what habits you’re ready to let go of. I absolutely love being in community with you!
